In the fall of 2004 ProfitWing Inc. was formed, inspired by the growth of companies such as eBay, Amazon, Buy.com and others who proved to the world that online marketing and selling was here to stay.
In the beginning, our primary focus was to find manufactures of various industries, products and services, who had quality products and who did not understand the internet market and or how to use internet technology to expand their business. Most manufacturers who we presented to did not have the experience, knowledge or focused staff to build a dedicated internet marketing team or to bring their products on to the internet.
It was not an easy decision to determine which products or services should be selected at first, largely because there were so many different industries and companies that needed help. Some embraced the creative ideas we presented and awarded ProfitWing the exclusive agreements and opportunity to take their products into this new market helping them build brand recognition, new distribution and profits.
Within the first year of operations we landed several small contracts with small manufacturers such as Green Valley Spa Labs of Utah and NextLink of Denmark ( Bluespoon AX2 -Bluetooth Headsets ) and GlassBay, a small distributor of . hand crafted glass art. Although we first thought that eBay and similar online services were the backbone of our future success, we quickly determined that the real revenue was not coming from eBay or Amazon at all - but from our other internet built properties that generated high traffic to our sites with much higher margins and less cost. We also found that partners both nationally and internationally question companies who focus on internet strategies such as eBay.
During the 2004 -2005 selling seasons, ProfitWing focused on building a business plan that would position our customer's unique products and services in front of retail buyers. ProfitWing attracted several “manufactures reps” who agreed with our vision and product selection, and who believed they could push our products into retails accounts such as Radio Shack, COMPUSA and Best Buy and other retail groups.. We hired our first rep group and within four months landed the COMPUSA account and initiated an exclusive world-wide agreement with Radio Shack. This was very big news for our small company, that we actually helped initiate the sell-through of our products into both RadioShack and COMPUSA. We found the educational experience interesting and rewarding. Learning how to do business with Radio Shack and other companies is valuable to ProfitWing and our partners, and we feel more confident today exploring new product introductions into such sales channels.
We give the credit to our special “reps” who “own” the major accounts – clearly the relationship is the key for any success with large retailers.
We continue to initiate better processes to move our products into channels of distribution, retail, resellers, sub-distributors and small independent chains. In the beginning nothing was easy; we learned by trail and error and experienced day to day road blocks and opportunities with only a few crashes along the way.
Moving Forward…
Our forecast for 2006 – 2007. ProfitWing will continue to search the globe for innovative products that meet customer expectations of quality. We have many exciting products and manufacturers who listen to our feedback on customer comments and needed product updates. – we find this a key ingredient to successful product adoption by retail, distributors and the real important element
